issue with "Create Database Alias"
In the GUI, the checkboxes for creating a database alias for the UPS and for the Search service are always in sync. Activating one of those two boxes will automatically activate the other one too. Deactivating any of those two will deactivate both.
In the resulting xml file, only the section for the UserProfileServiceApp gets updated (with regard to the creation of a database alias), the section for EnterpriseSearchService will stay unchanged - that means in that section, it always wants to create a db alias, even when unchecked!
